O'RAIFEARTAIGH MEMORIAL CONFERENCE

26-28 September 2002
School of Theoretical Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies

Schedule

The programme of scheduled talks can be downloaded either in PostScript or PDF format, or viewed as a webpage.

Travel and Accommodation

Conference participants are expected to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

Some information on accommodation options here in Dublin can be found at the DublinTourist.com, Visit Dublin and Softguide Dublin websites.

Information about the Dublin area and directions to DIAS can be obtained here. There are maps of Trinity College and its vicinity here, DIAS and its vicinity here, and a general map of Dublin City Centre here.

For those participants staying at Trinity College, the accommodation office can be contacted at +353-1-608-1177 (the booking reference for the accommodation is 1944). The accommodation office is located at the front gate at the west end of campus (see campus map and accommodation office map) where keys for the room can be collected between 8am and midnight. Between midnight and 8am keys are obtained from the security staff at the front gate.

For those staying at the Mespil Hotel, its website can be found here, and a useful map of its vicinity can be seen here.

The simplest way of reaching Trinity is to take a taxi from the airport (fare approximately €25). The taxi entrance to Trinity is Lincon Place Gate.

The Aircoach (a large blue bus) is a convenient way of getting from Dublin Airport into Trinity College, DIAS and most Dublin hotels. (Trinity College is the second official stop for the Aircoach, slightly south of the the pedestrian entrance.)
The fare is €6 one-way, €10 return.
(More information can be found at their website.)
Note: the coach departs the airport every 15 minutes between 4:30am and midnight and has an hourly service between midnight and 4:30am
(i.e. departures at midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am and 4am).

Getting around Dublin: Most newsagents (including Murphy's on Baggot Street, very close to DIAS) sell "rambler tickets" which allow unlimited travel on Dublin buses for a number of consecutive days. A 1-day ticket costs €4.50, a 3-day costs €8.80, a 5-day €13.90 and a 7-day €16.50. A ticket good for five nonconsecutive days can be bought for €14.

Dining

There are many restaurants throughout Dublin City Centre with easy access from Trinity College. A categorised list of some of them (including ratings and recommendations) can be found here.

There are sandwich shops, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops within five minutes' walking distance of DIAS on Baggot Street and Mespil Avenue (most closed on Saturday).
There are also many dining options, open (and popular) on Saturdays, near the junction of Ranelagh and Chelmsford Road, a ten- to fifteen-minute walk to the west of DIAS.
